A forbidden bible in the Dominican church


Antwerp book printer Jacob van Liesvelt got his head cut off in 1545. The bible that led to his beheading is now on exhibit in the Dominican church and illustrates the festive presentation of the Bible in Plain Language last Sunday. In three showcases Maastricht University Library shows nine impressive bibles from its Special Collections.

Maastricht students go Wiki


In 2013 the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the University Library organised On Expedition, a MaRBLe-project aimed to stimulate excellence by engaging students in the study of early travel books. This year On Expedition is back, with a Wikipedian in Residence and an edit-a-thon.

In anticipation of this year’s Maastricht Antiquarian Book & Print Fair in March, the Inner City Library displays books from the Special Collections related to the history of book printing in Maastricht. In our showcase you can see books from printers like Boucher, Dufour & Roux, Landtmeter, Veltman and Leiter-Nypels.

Rhetoric: the art of discourse
