In the contest ‘To Enlighten Your Research’ scientists that generate large amounts of research data were challenged to give their research a boost. Eighteen participants have submitted a proposal for The Big Data Challenge.
The jury (consisting of NWO, the Netherlands eScience Center (NLeSC), SURF, Surf Sara and SURFnet) has selected eight proposals that will go to the final. The finalists come from the University Medical Center Groningen, Leiden University Medical Center, the Academic Medical Center, University of Twente, Maastricht University, Free University, AMOLF and Nikhef. The medical disciplines are well represented with lung cancer and biomedical research, diagnosis using 3D imaging, neurobiology, and toxicogenomics. The other finalists are from humanities, physics and science innovation.
In the second round, the jury will challenge all participants to hone their proposal and show how they can optimize the connection of the services of the organizing parties into their research. Participants will write a final proposal that they have to submit no later than September 20. On 7 November at the National eScience Symposium, organized by the NLeSC, the winner will be announced.
