SURF events and news


As manager of the UM digital learning environment we are active in the SURF community and share our experiences on education and technology in (SURF) events and seminars.

You can trust us on keeping you informed on news and events on these topics, but can also register to the SURF newsletter on a personal basis.

A selection of news we made for you:

  • Register for the SURF Onderwijsdagen 2017 (conference mainly in Dutch)
    The program of the annual SURF Onderwijsdagen programme has been announced. Have yourself inspired on how ICT can support and change education for the better on 7 and 8 November. This year’s theme is ‘Education that moves you’. Until 23 October you can take advantage of the early bird registration fee.  

    The UM will also host you:

    1. in the interactive session on organising peer feedback (Gaby Lutgens, UM Library, as one of the contributors of the thematical publication)
    2. session on the future of the Digital Learning Environment (Charles Bollen,  UM Library)
    3. and a session on learning analytics (Dirk Tempelaar, SBE). 
  • Badgr selected as platform for proof-of-concept with open badges
    SURFnet has selected the Badgr open source platform for its proof-of-concept to allow institutions to experiment with creating and awarding open badges. Under this agreement, the participating institutions have access to the latest version of Badgr, while SURFnet will contribute to future development of the platform and the open badge standard.

    UM European Law School (Bram Akkermans) participates in the ‘proof of concept’.

  • Information sessions on the incentive scheme for open and online on 18 September (in Dutch)
    A follow up on previous announcements (UM News / Library Wall) on the incentive scheme for projects on Open and Online Education reminding you about the information sessions in which the call will be further amplified, experiences thus far shared and questions regarding proposals on the writing table answered:

    1. concerning the track on online education (10.00-12.00)
    2. concerning the track on open resources (13.00-15.00).

Both sessions will take place in Utrecht, but can also be attended via livestream.
