Special library news edition on Open and Online Education

---

Welcome to issue #3-2018 of the Library+ Education update

The International Open Education Week is a celebration of the global Open Education Movement. Its goal is to raise awareness about open education and its impact on teaching and learning worldwide.

This special issue is completely dedicated to open education. Since the offspring of the national incentive scheme programme on open and online education in 2014, the UM Library operates as linking pin between SURF and faculties on topics and activities in this context. The e-learning support team, together with the faculty funding advisors, facilitate teachers with strong ideas in the context of open and online education. This resulted in several projects being subsidised within the Open and Online incentive scheme programme. Read all about it in the post below on UM projects.

Also in this special issue a compilation of several items we published this week on fake news. Are you able to note what is fake? And last but not least, we refer to publications on this topic, released in this years’ Open Education Week.

For those quite new to the topic of open and online education, it could be helpful to first take a look at the definition page SURF created referring to several topics in this context. Unfortunately, as most information SURF offers, it is only available in Dutch. You can also browse to the UM Library page on open education, which we update on a regular basis.
