Blackboard, Canvas, or Brightspace?

by | 13 Dec 2018

Last week (49, 2018) the deadline expired for submitting a quotation to the LMS (short for Learning Management System) tender published by Maastricht University (UM). Time to take new steps in the process.

Vendor bids

Good news. Three vendors made a bid, all of them offering a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution. A good starting point for the next phase:

  • Blackboard (Blackboard Ultra platform, with integrated anti-plagiarism tool SafeAssign)
  • Instructure (Canvas platform, including license to the anti-plagiarism tool Urkund)
  • D2L (Brightspace platform, including license to the anti-plagiarism tool TurnItIn)

What’s next?

In the upcoming two months UM students, teaching staff, and supporting staff will assess the bids in line with the procedures as described in the request for quotation. The University Library is looking forward to a transparant and impartial assessment.

At 6 February 2019 the provisional winner of the process will be announced, with whom a Proof of Concept will be conducted in the twelve weeks to follow. The new LMS will be fully operational before Summer 2020.

Please do not hesitate to contact me via the EleUM support team mailbox if you have any questions concerning this tender process.
