InCites is a citation-based evaluation tool for academic and government administrators to analyze institutional productivity and benchmark output against peers and aspirational peers in a national or international context.
InCites is accessible through IP authentication. Users need to register for InCites account by entering an email address and password from UM IP-Authenticated computers. Anyone that registered an email with a Thomson Reuters product, the connection with the email and the institution’s IP is stored and used to provide access to InCites.
When using InCites the first time your Web of Science (WoS) or your Journal Citation Reports (JCR) account needs to be synchronised with InCites.
- Sign out of the Web of Science (important step)
- Clear browser cache and cookies
- Access InCites directly – without signing in to the Web of Science – by accessing InCites via JCR or via InCites directly .
Once registered in InCites you will be able to access InCites via the product link tab in the Web of Science or the Journal Citation Reports.
When using InCites for evaluation purposes be cautious as the quantitative indicators are meant to support qualitative, expert assessment and should not be used in isolation (see: The Leiden Manifesto for research metrics ).
