Visit the Virtual Library

13 Sep 2021

Imagine this: studying at the library without having to book a study place, always a study spot available, ánd having the possibility to chat live with a librarian. That does sound pretty good, right? Lucky for you, all of this is possible in our new Virtual Library: a dynamic online environment where you can study together with your fellow students and get real-time library support.

Study, socialise and chat live with a librarian

The Virtual Library will give you the actual library experience. Not only is the environment an exact copy of the Inner City Library’s ground floor, you will be able to see other students around you to keep you motivated. Just like in the real world, library students and staff are there to answer your questions at the information desk. You can attend study sessions, supervised by library staff, which follow a regular pattern of 50-minute study blocks followed by 10-minute breaks. Are you struggling with your thesis or paper? Peer Point is there to assist you. And last but not least, there are a bunch of fun games to play for the procrastinators among us (you know who you are!).

In the upcoming months we will launch some new features and host (wellbeing) events, so stay tuned!

Accessibility

You can access the Virtual Library by logging in with your UM credentials. The first time you log in, you will see a short introduction. Afterwards you will enter the Virtual Library.

Opening hours

The Virtual Library is 24/7 accessible. You can live chat with a librarian from the information desk on Mondays until Fridays from 9.00 – 12.00, and on Saturdays between 11.00 and 14.00.

The hosted study sessions are from Monday until Sunday between 9.00 – 12.00, 14.00 – 17.00, and 19.00-21.00.

The Peer Point opening hours vary each week, which you can check on Peer Point’s Facebook page.

Disclaimer: This service is still in the pilot phase, meaning that it is available until 10 January. After this date, we will evaluate whether to continue the service or not.
