Training and support

14 Dec 2020

From September 2020 Maastricht University uses Canvas instead of Blackboard (EleUM). This means you already built your course in Canvas or are very soon about to do so. To guide you in this transition, a comprehensive set of training and support activities is available.

Training activities (until further notice all online)

  • A self-paced Canvas training course (no tutor, not scheduled). You can start right away and be guided through Canvas step by step.
  • An alternative to the self-paced training course is the Canvas introduction webinar (groups up to 6 participants). One of our Canvas students will demonstrate the most important features of Canvas and get you started. Following your registration (up to 6 participants per workshop), you will be contacted to tailor the workshop to your needs.
  • Have some experience with creating and using your Canvas Course, but like to learn how you enrich your blended or online PBL courses making use of Canvas? From September until the end of November we offered a series of short Canvas theme session webinars. You can browse the recordings of all the sessions. In January a new series will start in which we will again address both didactics and the best workflow in Canvas. Did we miss topics you would like to dive in? Please let us know!

Support you can turn to

The Canvas Transition Helpdesk is there for you when you start creating your first Canvas course (possibly transitioning your previous Blackboard/EleUM course to Canvas) and need help on top of our training offer. You can mail them or start a Zoom-meeting.

During the academic year 2020-2021 we offer a Transition Service. A Canvas transition support student will – after a 1-hour online intake interview – design the course in Canvas based on the old Blackboard/EleUM course and the instructor’s directions.

To register for the Transition Service, please send an email with the course codes of the courses you are responsible for and a 1-hour timeslot that fits your agenda to canvas@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

Note: between 21 December and 4 January there will be no training activities. And also the helpdesk is on Christmas-leave.
You can of course ‘take’ the self-paced training or browse the Support Portal for guides and answers to (frequently) asked questions.

Canvas Support Portal

If you are already working with Canvas we want to refer you to the Canvas Support Portal and standard Canvas support offered by Faculty Canvas Coordinators and the Library DLE team.
