Over time, this temple has catered to Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The text includes a description of Christian Hell; \u201c<em>The place is below and has all bitterness. It is called Earth\u2019s prison, and is the place where the evil are punished. God sends the evil soul to the prison of Earth to receive eternal punishment.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 980px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-14372-1\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" poster=\"https:\/\/library.maastrichtuniversity.nl\/two-girls-in-china\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_1558-m4v-image.jpg\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/library.maastrichtuniversity.nl\/two-girls-in-china\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_1558.m4v?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/library.maastrichtuniversity.nl\/two-girls-in-china\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_1558.m4v\">https:\/\/library.maastrichtuniversity.nl\/two-girls-in-china\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_1558.m4v<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">It seems as though &#8216;hell&#8217; has some universal features; beneath the Gao Miao Temple is a former bomb shelter that is now used as a Buddhist hell-house.
