The Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts will be exploring Kircher’s China Illustrata in a very different way to us this semester! A group of students have been given the difficult task of trying to interpret Kircher and develop an artistic project based on the works. These projects can be anything ranging from the fines arts to fashion, sculpture and design.
We visited the faculty to give a presentation on our experience exploring modern China through Kircher’s book and the experiences of the 17th century Jesuits.
The students will present their work at a gala-event at the end of November to celebrate the University’s Special Collections.
Stay tuned for more events, information and exhibitions!
