The grant, amounting to €50,000, will be used to hire staff for both the library and P&D. Mariëlle Prevoo, Department Manager of the Research Support & Development department of the library and Chief Open Science at UM, stresses the value of this project in an interview by Open Science NL.
UM’s commitment to Open Science
The UM Career Compass has been used for two years to evaluate academic development and performance, including contributions to Open Science and (societal) impact. Staff feedback highlights challenges in evaluating these areas, particularly in providing evidence of their contributions. By embedding Open Science into evaluation systems, UM promotes transparency, collaboration, and accessibility, reflecting its values of inclusivity, excellence, and societal relevance.
Project goals and work packages
The project consists of two key work packages:
- Creating an evidence base for Open Science
This work package aims to integrate Open Science and team science practices into the current research information system (CRIS). It will explore how to incorporate these practices within CRIS and ensure that data registration and validation are user-friendly for both researchers and administrators. Carien Hilvering, Team lead Research Information System & Research Intelligence at the UM Library, is the project leader for this work package. - Training managers in evaluating Open Science
The second work package focuses on equipping managers with the skills to evaluate Open Science responsibly. It addresses questions such as:
How do you do this responsibly?
What kind of evidence can be provided without the evaluation becoming a simple count?
Bruna Calado, Project Manager for Recognition & Rewards at P&D, is the project leader for this work package. This part of the project will be a collaboration between P&D and the library.
