Update on DSRI service 26 August 2025

We are currently working on restoring the DSRI service and our next recovery actions will pose severe risks for permanent data loss of data stored on the DSRI. At this moment, the DSRI service is still unavailable. We expect the DSRI computing service to remain inaccessible till at least the end of September.

Cause of the DSRI issues

The problems with the DSRI cluster started after our planned maintenance in July which included several updates of our cluster management software to newer versions. The first upgrade triggered multiple problems with our data storage solution which resulted in an instable cluster and inaccessible data from within and outside the cluster. The Research Computing support team, supported by external technical experts, managed to get the cluster in a more stable state to try to recover some data, and pursue upgrading the cluster management software.

Next steps

At this moment we are carrying out several upgrades concerning our cluster software to see whether this solves instability issues and make the data accessible data again. The cluster recovery actions we need to perform pose severe risks for permanent data loss of data stored on the DSRI. We will keep you informed about the progress.
