Copyright – Master the Essentials

Learn how to protect your own work and ethically reuse the works of others. Copyright is granted automatically by law, and legal thresholds for protection are relatively low. That’s why it is essential to understand the rules.

For UM educators, students, communications, and academic staff
To help you create materials, research and communications without infringing on the rights of others, the Copyright Information Point (CIP) offers several 1-hour workshops to tackle the specific challenges you face in your daily work. We offer focused, sessions designed to tackle the specific challenges you face in your daily work. Instead of a broad overview, these workshops dive into the practicalities of navigating copyr.

The  Essentials of Copyright workshops

  • Using Others’ Work: How to ethically and legally incorporate images, data, and text into your publications and teaching materials. After the workshop you understand legal copyright basics, how to identify the copyright holder of a work, how to comply with (open)  licences, why to record your permissions. You know how to make use of your quotation right.
  • Copyright in the (Digital) Classroom: Understanding the rules for sharing resources asynchronously vs. live teaching. Upon completion of the workshop  you understand how to make use of the exceptions for educational use, including, the Easy Access Agreement, the exception for live screening and why and how this is different for asynchronous use on the Digital learning environment (Canvas).
  • Using audiovisual materials & designs: How to legally incorporate audiovisual materials of others into your promotional materials. Upon completion you understand how to record permissions and licences of online providers, how to deal with materials from external UM suppliers and how to create your own materials.
