Working sessions – Recognising and Rewarding Open Science
Recognising and rewarding Open Science is not easy. This programme equips participants with the expertise and confidence to foster understanding of Open Science and to integrate it into career development practices, while applying R&R principles.
Open Science practices are valuable for academics and society and to stimulate Open Science it is important to reward people for their Open Science efforts. These efforts will only become sustainable if they are supported by appropriate recognition and reward systems. The past years, the UM has been working on implementing the national Recognition and Rewards (R&R) program. Resources have been created and tools have been developed, but academics still struggle with applying R&R and assessing contributions to Open Science.
Clear guidance and examples are still emerging, and the system is in a transition phase, which means additional support and training can help those with R&R roles in their responsibilities.
The goal
This programme is mainly intended for supervisors or managers that are involved with the evaluation and development of academics and for staff with R&R responsibilities. Examples include P&D advisors, policy makers and committee members involved in promotion of academics.
Recognising and rewarding Open Science is not easy. This programme equips participants with the expertise and confidence to foster understanding of Open Science and to integrate it into career development practices, while applying R&R principles. This is done with a combination of training (e-learnings) and guided working sessions.
What will you learn?
In the e-learnings, you will work on the following goals:
- To understand the national and institutional R&R framework
- To identify key Open Science practices and how they contribute to impact, research quality, integrity, collaboration and reproducibility
- To understand how to evaluate Open Science in a responsible way
- To understand how appraisal talks can help in recognising and rewarding Open Science and which tools are available to support these talks
- To be aware of tools for evaluation and professional development
