International Omeka S Developer and Power User Event 2026

Maastricht University Library, in collaboration with the Dutch Digital Heritage Network, is organising the third Omeka S Developer & Power User Event, an international, invitation-based three-day event that brings together the Omeka S community to exchange knowledge on software development, metadata workflows, interoperability, digital heritage infrastructure, and the future development of the Omeka S ecosystem. The programme follows a BarCamp-style format with collaborative sessions, technical discussions, demonstrations, and community-driven agenda setting.

There will be no keynote speeches or formal presentations, and no traditional workshops. Instead, the agenda will be co-created by you—the participants—ensuring that the sessions reflect the shared interests, challenges, and expertise of the community. Sessions will consist of breakout discussions, co-working groups, and hands-on problem-solving, all self-organised and participant-led. This format ensures an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and valued.

• Technical specialists working with Omeka S
• Professionals from universities, libraries, archives, and heritage institutions actively working with Omeka S

Time commitment:
Three-day event with a schedule running from lunch on Wednesday 16 September to lunch on Friday 18 September 2026. This allows participants to arrive in Maastricht on Wednesday morning and depart on Friday afternoon. Please plan your travel accordingly to make the most of the event. Participants are welcome to attend one, two, or all three days depending on their interests and availability.

Travel and accommodation:

• By plane: Maastricht has a small international airport. However, most international visitors will find it more convenient to fly to Brussels (Belgium), Düsseldorf (Germany), Eindhoven (the Netherlands) or Amsterdam (the Netherlands).
• By train: Maastricht has three railway stations, but Maastricht Central Station is the most convenient for the event venue. From the station, it is approximately a 20-minute walk to the venue. You can plan your journey via NS (Dutch Railways), NS International, or your preferred international rail travel planner.
• By car: Navigate to Grote Looiersstraat 17, Maastricht. Please note that there is no on-site parking available at the event venues. We recommend using one of the following nearby public parking garages:
  • Q-Park O. L. Vrouweparking (Maasboulevard 80, 6211 JW) – approximately 8–10 minutes’ walk.
  • ParkBee Abtstraat (Abtstraat 3, 6211 LS) – approximately 10 minutes’ walk.
  • Q-Park Stadspark – three nearby locations, all three locations are approximately 10–15 minutes’ walk from the venue.

• Accommodation: Participants are kindly asked to arrange their own accommodation. The event takes place in Maastricht’s city centre (Grote Looiersstraat 17), so we recommend booking a hotel within walking distance of the venue using your preferred hotel booking website.
