UM Library arranged a new UM wide license whereby all UM staff and students have free access to the Academia streaming audio and video content.

Academia provides online access [in Dutch] to 90,000 audiovisual resources for Dutch higher education and sciences. The resources are selected from archives of the Dutch Institute of Sound and Vision.

The selection is constantly increasing and includes:

  • current and historic TV archive
  • current and historic collections, such as nature documentaries, movies, National Government Information Services collection, Cinema newsreels by Polygoon and wisebits (short educational video clips)
  • historic and current radio recordings.

Academia offers a variety of options:

  • the possibility to order (for free) video programmes broadcasted on the Dutch television which are not in Academia
  • a personal workspace for saved material, sharing or filing audiovisual material
  • the possibility to cut a fragment out of a video programme for using it in a digital educational environment
  • other options can be find on the help page.
