Plagiarism check

What does the colour blue mean (no matching text)?

Yes, because it is suspicious if there is no matching text at all. You would expect a student to use references and have a certain amount of similarity.

Besides, our advice would be to always check the Turnitin Similarity report for every submission, because it will also show you red flags, such as manipulations by a student, or the use of AI.

Can I see the name of the student whose work Turnitin shows as similar?

Yes, as a teacher at Maastricht University, you can see the name of the UM student whose work shows similarity with your student’s work.

  • Go to the Similarity Report in Turnitin
  • Click Similarity. Now you see papers with similarity on the right.
  • Click on the name of the Submitted work from Maastricht University
  • Click on the i-icon.

A paper in Turnitin. On the right there is a match with submitted works at Maastricht University. You can see an orange circle around the i-icon that shows the name and email of. the matching paper.

Can others see the content of my students’ work in Turnitin?
