The correct URL for accessing Turnitin is: turnitin.maastrichtuniversity.nl. This is where you log in with your UM account and then you are directed to Turnitin.

Plagiarism check
Do I need to open the Turnitin similarity report if a student’s admission has the colour blue (no matching text)?
Yes, because it is suspicious if there is no matching text at all. You would expect a student to use references and have a certain amount of similarity.
Besides, our advice would be to always check the Turnitin Similarity report for every submission, because it will also show you red flags, such as manipulations by a student, or the use of AI.
If a student’s paper shows similarity with another student’s paper. Can I see the name of this student in Turnitin?
- Go to the Similarity Report in Turnitin
- Click Similarity. Now you see papers with similarity on the right.
- Click on the name of the Submitted work from Maastricht University
- Click on the i-icon.
Can people from another university see the content of my students’ work in Turnitin?
They can only see the name of the institute and the percentage of overlap.
AI check
Can I check a student’s paper on AI?
Yes, if you choose Turnitin as a plagiarism check, a paper will be automatically checked for AI.
