Assignments with plagiarism check

29 Oct 2020

When you create an assignment in Canvas, you can make use of Urkund to detect plagiarism: an automatic text-recognition tool made for detecting, preventing and handling plagiarism, regardless of language.

Create an assignment with Urkund plagiarism check

If you invite your students to hand in papers or essays, you want to be sure that they did not copy work from peers. Urkund provides the option to check whether students copied from the internet or work from other students.

When you can create an Assignment and select ‘Submission type Online’, you can select ‘Urkund’ for plagiarism review. You can also define whether students are allowed to view their plagiarism report and if so, when. All papers submitted for this assignment will then be checked for originality.

To access the Urkund report

In the Gradebook you can see whether the report is available; as soon as the report is available a small tab icon is displayed. With colour codes, you get a quick impression of the matching percentage.

Uploading a document as a teacher

After creating your first Urkund assignment in a published course in Canvas your account will exist in the Urkund database. As a teacher, you can then upload or send a document to check for plagiarism.

On the Canvas Support Portal you find more information on how to create assignments with plagiarism check and manuals.
