Course Description
Research reproducibility is essential for ensuring the validity, reliability, and transparency of research results. It facilitates Open Science and is increasingly required in scientific publishing.
In this workshop, participants will learn how to set up reproducible research practices in either R or Python. Through hands-on exercises and practical examples, researchers will explore how to organize and document their work, manage code effectively, and share research outputs in a way that enables others to reproduce their analyses. Examples may include automating data processing workflows and publishing research outputs through DataverseNL.
The workshop focuses on reproducible research principles and workflows rather than programming skills. It is intended for researchers who already use R or Python and wish to adopt or strengthen reproducible coding practices within their research group or department.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the key principles of reproducible research.
- Distinguish between reproducibility and replicability.
- Reproduce research code directly from a data repository (DataverseNL).
- Understand good practices for organizing and managing code to support reproducibility.
- Identify practical steps to improve the reproducibility of their own research workflows.
Target group: Researchers and academic staff who use R or Python in their research. Participants should have basic coding experience in at least one of these programming languages. This workshop does not provide instruction in R or Python programming.
Capacity: The minimum amount of participants is 8.

Workshop format: In person (location can be discussed). The workshop takes 4 hours.
Availability of the workshop: This workshop is available exclusively on demand for existing groups of researchers, such as departments, research groups, institutes, or project teams. It is not offered as a regularly scheduled course. A tailored version can be developed to address the specific reproducibility needs and workflows of your group.
