About the OpenUp Workshop
The OpenUp Workshop is designed to help educators license, share, and enhance their educational materials, making them Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR). Hosted by the Open Science in Education team, this session provides hands-on guidance to ensure your resources reach their full potential.
By attending, you will gain the knowledge and skills to navigate open licensing, refine your materials, and explore publishing options for wider accessibility.
What to Expect
In just one hour, you will:
- Learn about Open Science in Education at Maastricht University.
- Understand Creative Commons licensing and copyright considerations.
- Discover best practices for refining and structuring your materials into impactful learning resources.
- Explore strategies for finding, evaluating, and accessing OERs across different platforms.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this workshop, you will:
- Be familiar with open educational resources and how to find and evaluate them.
- Understand how to license your materials using Creative Commons.
- Be aware of how to apply FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles to your educational materials through DOI assignment and by sharing the output on OER repositories, increasing their visibility and reusability.
- Gain insights into publishing your resources as an open (interactive) textbook with Maastricht University Press.
- Learn how Open Science in Education can support your career and teaching impact.
Target Group:
This workshop is ideal for educators who are looking to find high-quality open educational resources but aren’t sure where to start, need guidance on licensing and sharing their own learning materials, and are curious about how Open Science in Education can enhance both their teaching and professional growth.

Prerequisites:
Bring your existing teaching materials—e.g. lecture notes, slides, videos, or guides—and work directly with experts to license and share them confidently.
Course format:
These are three onsite interactive and practical sessions (1 hour) led by our experts. During these sessions, we focus on addressing your specific questions and needs, ensuring personalised support.
