Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is reshaping higher education, creating both new opportunities and fresh challenges for teaching and assessment. To ensure that the UM community stays ahead of these developments, we are launching AI for Higher Education: Train-the-Trainer Workshops — a deepen-level programme designed for educators who will take an active role in supporting their colleagues.

This is not just a skills course, it’s a multiplier programme. Participants are expected to attend both sessions (held one week apart) and to use what they learn to raise AI awareness, offer guidance, and help fellow educators in their faculties explore AI’s potential in teaching and learning.

Who it’s for
This programme is aimed at UM educators who will go on to train or support colleagues, for example by giving short sessions, mentoring peers, or sharing AI teaching resources. Participants should already have basic familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude) and a general understanding of AI’s role in education.

Time commitment
The programme consists of two interactive sessions of 2 hours each, with approximately 1 hour of preparation before each session. The one-week gap between sessions allows you to continue developing your mini-lesson plan or assessment design.

Dates :

session 1: 24 September 2025 – 15-17 h – Makerspace GL17
session 2: 1 October 2025 – 15-17 h – room 1.213 GL17

Laptop: please, bring your laptop
UM card: please bring your Um card (to enter the library)

What you’ll learn
Over the two sessions, you will:

  • Explore AI fundamentals, responsible use, and effective prompting techniques.
  • Learn practical ways to integrate AI into course design and create AI-aware assessments.
  • Develop teaching materials or a mini-lesson plan that uses AI effectively.
  • Gain tips and strategies for becoming a confident AI trainer within your faculty.

What you’ll receive
You will get trainer-ready slides, templates, and handouts, plus ongoing support to help you deliver AI training or guidance within your faculty.

Personal benefits

  • Strengthen your teaching with practical, AI-informed course and assessment design.
  • Enhance your educational leadership and trainer profile.
  • Join a peer network of AI trainers across faculties for resource sharing and feedback.

Learning objectives
By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand practical methods for incorporating AI tools into teaching.
  2. Design assessments and coursework that remain valid in the age of AI.
  3. Create course elements that emphasise critical thinking and originality.
  4. Develop a mini-lesson plan (or course module) that integrates an AI tool.
  5. Confidently support colleagues by raising AI awareness or providing AI teaching guidance.
