Incentive scheme on open and online education

by | 9 Mar 2018

After four years the incentive scheme on open and online education is about to be continuated in a new four year programme. Maastricht University Library, together with the faculty funding advisors, will guide you through the internal process of having your proposal submitted.

In the period 2015–2018 SURF and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (in short OCW, the Dutch abbreviation) have facilitated an incentive scheme programme (or in Dutch ‘stimuleringsregeling’) in which they challenged Dutch higher education institutions to experiment with different types of open and online education (OOE). The programme wants to stimulate higher education to offer more and better online and blended education as well as motivate teachers to create, share and reuse open educational resources, in order to offer students more and better learning material.

The Maastricht University (UM) has received grants in all years so far and is currently still in the race for this year’s incentive scheme (decision on funding will be communicated on 1 May by the minister of OCW).

Also for the upcoming period, (2018–2022) the UM gets the opportunity to submit project proposals and apply for financing. The official announcement (in Dutch) that funding will be continued, has been published already last year and the call for proposals will be announced towards the summer.

Research into open and online education

Next to the projects in this large programme (nearly all Dutch institutes are represented in at least one of the projects), the official announcement facilitates the SOONER project. The research is executed by the Open University and Utrecht University and focuses on fundamental and accompanying research about OOE in the Netherlands. Something to take into account when considering activities and projects in this field!
