Interested in book history, artists’ books or reading practices in the city? Register before Friday 10 June for the Maastricht conference Books and the City. The conference will be held from Wednesday 22 – Friday 24 June at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (Grote Gracht 80-82) and the Jan van Eyck Academy (Academieplein 1). The University Library contributes with a lecture about historic atlases by Special Collections curator Odin Essers and a tour (both at the Inner City Library, Grote Looiersstraat 17) and an exhibition at the Jan van Eyck Academy.

Programme

The conference is a collaboration between Maastricht University (UM), the Hubert van Eyck Academy and the University of Canterbury. It aims to investigate the relationships between books and urban city spaces. We have a full 3 days programme with talks by international academics, professionals of the book and artists. For the complete programme and abstracts see our Books and the City website.

The University Library planned a Special Collections lecture and tour on Wednesday evening, and an exhibition opening on Thursday evening.

Registration

Registrations close on Friday 10 June and you can register for the whole programme or just part of it. Registrations are done through the website http://booksandthecity.nl/registration/. If you would like to join us only for one of the public events, please let us know via email before 10 June too.

Don’t hesitate to circulate this announcement amongst your colleagues, friends and family.
