About the event
Supported by a grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the event focuses on Open Science. Citizen science is a key aspect of this approach, allowing members of the public to actively engage with research and make scientific knowledge more accessible to everyone.
The event combines a science fair with a ‘speed-dating’ format, designed to connect citizen volunteers with researchers from a variety of academic and knowledge institutions in the region. At their stands, researchers will present ongoing projects and include an interactive citizen science element, giving visitors the opportunity to participate in a hands-on research activity. A few projects participating in the event:
- Developing AI for parents of school-age children
- A Maastricht history bring-your-own photo-and-story clinic
- An app for managing chronic pain using AI
- The Ons Limburgs Museum app
- A financial literacy workshop
- A bring-your-own-research-question workshop from Burgerkracht Limburg

Why participate?
Citizen Science allows members of the public to engage directly in research, from formulating questions to collecting and analysing data, and contributing to solutions. Participation not only provides insight into scientific processes but also helps generate knowledge that is relevant and reusable. It fosters scientific understanding and trust, which is especially important in today’s society. Participation in this event is free of charge.
