To make collaboration with external researchers easier, SRD allows access via eduID and Federated Cloud ID’s. These options enable secure file sharing without requiring external users to have a UM account, while maintaining control over data access.
Access to SRD
SRD offers several ways to collaborate with both users who have a UM account and with external partners, depending on your role and affiliation:
- UM account Staff with a UM account can request SRD access directly.
- eduID EduID is an institution‑independent digital identity for students, staff, and guest users. External users (non‑UM) can request access to SRD through eduID. Anyone who creates an eduID using an email address can use that same email address to request access to SRD. This makes it easy to include external collaborators without requiring them to be part of UM.
- Federated Cloud ID Access can also be granted via a Federated Cloud ID: a unique Nextcloud address that every SRD and Nextcloud user automatically has. This allows users from different organisations to securely exchange files without needing to create a new SRD account. Please consult the instructions for using Federated Cloud IDs. Approval from the faculty privacy officer is still required when adding users who are not affiliated with UM.
Teams and data sharing
Within SRD, teams can be created to share data with a fixed group of users. Please note that users added through a Federated Cloud ID cannot be included in such teams.
More information
More information about requesting access and sharing data in SRD can be found on the UM Library website.
