When sharing materials with students, specific copyright rules apply to ensure lawful use within education.

The key rules are:

  • Linking is preferred: Whenever possible, provide a link to books and journal articles in the library collection instead of uploading a PDF.
  • Short extracts (up to 25 pages): You may include up to 25 pages from a single work in the digital learning environment (e.g., Canvas, Keylinks).
  • Medium extracts (26 to 40 pages): These are permitted as long as the excerpt does not exceed 20% of the entire work.
  • Long extracts (>40 pages):separate permission is required and a fee must be paid. Always check with your Faculty in advance whether this is permitted.
