For the first time, EAR II provides for the use of a CopyrightCheck tool, available to the University Library since this academic year. This tool aligns with the new rules of EAR II and serves multiple purposes. For example, it promotes further awareness of copyright in general and the potential consequences of its incorrect application within the universities. Additionally, the tool generates an overview of the actual usage of different types of extracts (classified as short, medium, or long) per faculty. Moreover, the intention is to deploy the tool to avoid potential sanctions/fines resulting from the incorrect implementation of agreements made with UvO regarding the various types of extracts. Since the rates for usage vary depending on the type of extract, the tool will also provide insights into the costs for both faculties and the UM as a whole.

For more information regarding the rules for using extracts from publications, we refer you to the webpage of the Copyright Information Point. For questions, please contact the Copyright Information Point via Ask Your Librarian.
