Project When every word matters: reading without barriers

D&I grant stampThis spring, the University Library, Disability Support and M-BIC language lab joined forces and got the project proposal ‘When every word matters; studying without barriers’ granted by Maastricht University’s (UM) D&I office.

In the project, we investigate how to improve the digital accessibility of content the university offers. Think of (library) resources students need to search and read, but also content offered in Canvas (UM learning management system) or assessment tools. We will for instance focus on testing and selecting tools to make processing this content easier. In the next phase of the project, we will also pay attention to informing teaching staff on how to create better accessible educational material.

Accessibility as a joint effort – make your voice heard!

We view accessibility as an ongoing and collaborative process. Without your input, we can only guess what works for you. So:

  • fill in the survey about your experiences and needs regarding reading content;
  • feel invited to share your feedback; whether it is about problems you are encountering or suggestions for improvement;
  • or join the UnliMited networkthat has been launched for and by students and employees with visible and/or invisible disabilities or chronical conditions.

We like to start the conversation with you to ‘clear the path’ for everyone at our university!
