Your memories are part of UM’s history

What was it like to study or work at UM in its early years? Do you remember a particular colleague, lecturer, event, tradition or building? Or did you watch the university grow and change the city as a Maastricht resident, neighbour or local partner?

In November, UM Library is organising the UM50 History Clinic to collect the personal stories behind the university’s history.

Everyone is welcome

You do not need to have studied or worked at UM. We are also interested in the experiences of Maastricht residents and others who encountered the university through their neighbourhood, work, association or an event.

What are we looking for?

We are particularly looking for stories that do not usually appear in official records. Rather than general facts and dates, we would like to hear what you experienced, what you remember and why a particular person, place or moment still matters to you.

You are welcome to bring a photograph, document or object connected to your story, but this is not required. If relevant, we may ask whether we can photograph or scan it. We will always discuss this with you first, and bringing something does not mean that you are donating it.

Join the UM50 History Clinic

The History Clinics will take place on 4, 5, 17 and 19 November at the Inner City Library. Conversations can be held in Dutch or English.

A limited number of places are available, so please register in advance.

Do you know someone with a memorable, moving or unexpected UM story? Please share this.
