In 8 European countries, already more than 50% of the papers are now published in Open Access repositories. This is the result of a study commissioned by the European Commission for 22 fields of knowledge in the European Research Area, Brazil, Canada, Japan, and the United States. The EC calls it ‘the tipping point’.

The Netherlands is the EC country with the highest rate of papers made available for free. The shift towards Open Access Publishing is happening much faster than expected, and ‘Open Access is here to stay’.
