More and more universities and the Dutch Government take the position that results of publically financed research should be online and freely available. Everyone should be able to read and reuse the results of publically funded academic research online: this is the ideal pursued by the Open Access movement. Of course Maastricht University (UM) shares this ideal and signed an agreement with six publishers.

Enthusiasm for Open Access (OA) among both the government and institutions in the Netherlands has led to the national agreements with 6 publishers (American Chemical Society, Elsevier, Karger, Sage, Springer and Wiley-Blackwell). Authors will not have to pay the so-called Article Processing Charges. The complete lists of the journals where Dutch researchers can publish for free in  Open Access ,are accessible on the UM Library Open Access portal.
