On 1 January 2019 the access policy of the University library has changed. For UM, AVM and OU students and staff and for MUMC employees, nothing changes. UM pensioners and UM alumni, please see information below. Other users of the library, please check the information under ‘other visitors’.

 

Access, library card and membership

As a member of the University library you need a UMcard  for:

  • Access to the library
  • Borrowing books
  • Requesting journals/books from the closed stacks
  • Printing and copying
  • Inter library loan services
  • Paying (UM cafeteria)
  • Accessing lockers (in the Inner City Library)

How to get a UMcard

Students UM and AVMU

UM students

Students UM  automatically receive a UMcard at the start of their study. You can immediately use your card to enter the library and make use of the facilities.

AVMU Students

Students of the University of Midwifery Education & Studies Maastricht (AVMU) automatically receive a UMcard at the start of their study. You need the card to enter the library. You can activate your card for library use at the information desk.

The information desk is located on the ground floor of the Inner City Library  and at level 1 in the Randwyck Library 
The opening hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 10.30 – 17.00, Tuesday 10.30 – 17.00,
Saturday (only Inner City Library): 10.30 – 14.00.

Employees UM

Employees automatically receive a UMcard at the start of their employment.

You need your UMcard to enter the library. You need to activate and update your UMcard for library use.

Employees MUMC and AVMU

Employees automatically receive a MUMC/AVMU card at the start of their employment.

Employees Open Universiteit

Researchers and supporting staff of the Open Universiteit can use this webform to apply for a UMcard. You need your card to enter the library.

Within two weeks the UMcard will be sent to your work address.

Students Open Universiteit

Type of membership:

  • 1-year membership
  • No costs
  • For private purposes only 
  • Please keep in mind most electronic sources require a physical presence in the library and cannot be accessed off campus

  • Costs €10.00 a day
  • You need to make an appointment to visit the library
  • There is a limited amount of visitor cards a day available
  • Visiting is possible during opening hours of the information desk
  • Access to the library is only possible with a visitors card
  • Use the public workstations to access the catalogue, databases, e-journals and e-books
  • Books are for reference only and cannot be borrowed
  • You can use the visitor card to print, to request items from the closed stacks and to go to the UM cafeteria
  • You will have a workplace near the information desk
  • Please keep in mind most electronic sources require a physical presence in the library and cannot be accessed off campus
  • Access to the library is not possible during exam (XXL) weeks, please check our opening hours for the academic calendar.
