Diamond Open Access (DOA)

DOA is an academic publishing model that eliminates financial barriers for authors and readers by removing article processing charges and subscription fees, fostering inclusivity, accessibility, and equitable knowledge dissemination.

How to Flip Your Journal: a guide to more equitable publishing with DOA

The ‘How to Flip Your Journal’ guide, crafted by Dutch university library experts, tackles critical academic publishing challenges. It offers a practical toolkit for editors transitioning from a traditional publishing model to DOA.

At its core, the guide provides concrete strategies for transformation. Editors will find practical advice on negotiating with current publishers, exploring alternative funding models, and implementing Open Science practices.

A Global Perspective
While rooted in the Dutch academic context, the guide’s principles are globally relevant. It addresses journal editors worldwide who face similar challenges, particularly those seeking greater editorial autonomy, financial sustainability, and broader access to academic research.

The guide is not just a manual; it’s an invitation to reimagine scholarly communication. It challenges editors to consider how their journals can become more inclusive by breaking down financial and institutional barriers. The future of scholarly communication is open, accessible, and collaborative. This guide is your first step towards that future.
