The project in short
As previously informed, this project was initiated because many academics and their managers experience challenges when it comes to evaluating open science and impact, as part of the UM Career Compass. Although the Compass has been in use for two years as a tool to support more inclusive and meaningful annual interviews, translating Open Science and impact into concrete, assessable elements remains difficult in practice. Questions often arise around what constitutes relevant ‘evidence’ and how to fairly reflect these efforts in performance evaluations, both from the perspective of the employee and the manager.
Therefore, the project has defined two work packages with the aim of guiding both researchers and their managers in this process of assessment.
An update on the project team
For work package 1, which focuses on creating an evidence base for Open Science and Team Science practices through the research information system (CRIS), Chantal Machiels (CRIS Functional Manager) will take the lead. Carien Hilvering is project leader of this work package.
Work package 2 focuses on training managers in evaluating Open Science, and is a collaboration between the UM Library and People & Development (P&D). From the library, Marlot Kruisbrink (Coordinator and teacher for the UM general PhD trainings) and Dennie Hebels (Open Science Officer) are part of the team. Bruna Calado, from P&D, is the project leader of this work package.
P&D is currently recruiting a trainer to take part in this work package team.
