Programming on the Vlaai is a recurring series that brings together researchers and students at Maastricht University who use programming in their research or are interested in developing their programming skills. Whether you are just beginning your programming journey or already have experience, these sessions provide a welcoming environment to learn, connect with others, and expand your expertise.
Each session starts with an introduction to, or an in-depth exploration of, a topic related to scientific programming. This is followed by an informal work session where participants can work on their own projects, ask questions, exchange knowledge, and network with fellow researchers and students while enjoying a slice of vlaai.
First Session: Introduction to R
The first session will feature an introduction to R by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Viechtbauer, Associate Professor of Methodology and Statistics in the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at Maastricht University.
R is one of the most widely used programming languages and open-source software environments for statistical computing and data visualization. It is extensively applied across a broad range of research fields, including the social sciences, economics, psychology, epidemiology, and bioinformatics.
When: Programming on the Vlaai is a recurrent series. The first session takes place on 29 September 2026, from 15:00 until 17:00.
Where: At Maastricht University, location to be determined.
