Within the scope of Maastricht Colours You 2015 and Pink Saturday on 20 June, the Maastricht University Library presents a small exhibition: ‘Books coming out of the closet’. The library has a modest book collection on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) issues. The collection is mainly stored in the closed stacks. It’s time to bring them out!

Four centuries and themes

The exhibition covers a time span from the eighteenth until the twenty-first century. Part of the books are from our Special Collections

The books are arranged by four themes:

  1. Prosecution – of sodomites & homosexuals through the ages
  2. Literature & Poetry – homosexual and lesbian writers
  3. Society – norms, values and attitudes
  4. Medicalisation – of homosexuality
