The University Library is pleased to announce that our license to the JSTOR collections has expanded to the entire JSTOR Archival Journal & Primary Source Collection.

JSTOR stands for “Journal Storage” and is a large full-text archive of journals from all disciplines, with stronger coverage for the humanities and social sciences. Until now, the University Library had only licensed the following JSTOR collections under the Central Collection:

JSTOR Arts & Sciences I Collection JSTOR’s first collection includes core journals in economics, history, political science, and sociology, as well as in other key fields in the humanities and social sciences.
JSTOR Arts & Sciences II Collection This collection adds depth to many disciplines introduced in Arts & Sciences I with core titles in new disciplines such as archaeology, classical studies, and geography.
JSTOR Arts & Sciences III Collection This collection draws on titles across the language, performing, and visual arts, including a large group of titles from the Music collection. It also features the largest cluster of titles on Eastern and Western religions on JSTOR.

Since 2020, in response to the Covid period, JSTOR granted temporary access to the entire JSTOR Archival Journal & Primary Source Collection. However, this temporary access was set to expire on 1 July 2023.

After a careful evaluation of the usage data, the library has decided to license all the collections for full access.
The usage statistics received from JSTOR provided valuable insights into the users’ engagement with all collections. These statistics show not only how frequently an ‘Item request’ was accessed (downloaded and/or viewed) but also demonstrate that having access to all offered JSTOR packages allows us to optimise and keep the e-journal collection up-to-date. This allows the library to address the preferences and requirements of our user community. Moreover, the expansion of the collection offers additional advantages.

As a result, Maastricht University will gain direct access to all archival journals and primary sources through the compiled JSTOR Archival Journals & Primary Sources Collection.

This means that, in addition to the collections mentioned above, students and staff of Maastricht University will also have access to:
