What’s happening?

The Diamond Open Access Expertise Centre is hosting a hands-on event to create a practical resource kit for navigating, promoting, and supporting Diamond Open Access publishing at the faculty and department levels. This interactive workshop, co-funded by Open Science NL, will unite participants from across the Netherlands to collaborate on developing tools and strategies for advancing Diamond Open Access initiatives.

Why is this important?

Diamond Open Access represents a crucial pathway to making scholarly publishing more equitable and inclusive. Unlike traditional subscription models or Gold Open Access with article processing charges (APCs), Diamond OA journals are free to readers and authors, removing financial barriers to knowledge dissemination.

As the Dutch academic community continues strengthening its commitment to open science principles, understanding and implementing Diamond Open Access models becomes increasingly important for universities, researchers, and scholarly societies.

What’s in it for you?

Participants will:

  • Gain practical knowledge about Diamond Open Access models and implementation strategies
  • Collaborate with peers to develop resources that we can use at Maastricht University and in your faculty
  • Connect with experts and colleagues working toward similar open-access goals
  • Contribute to a national resource that will help advance equitable scholarly communication

The event offers a unique opportunity to contribute to creating a toolkit that will help the broader academic community transition to more sustainable and accessible publishing models.
