Researchers need their data easily accessible, shareable and stored safely. The Maastricht Data Repository can fulfil these needs by providing an easy to use data repository that is connected to several storage solutions.
Stored safely
The Maastricht Data Repository (MDR) is your starting point for using the DataHub storage facilities. You will get access to High Performance Spinning Disk Storage (NAS) with geo-replication, hosted by the ICT departments of Maastricht University and the academic hospital. When a research project is finished, it is often necessary to store the data for 10+ years. During this period the data not used actively can be archived. For this purpose MDR has a secured connection to SURF tape to store the data at significantly reduced cost. Via an audit log in the Maastricht Data Repository it is possible to keep track on who has downloaded what datasets.
Easy to access
The Maastricht Data Repository is connected to SURF Research Access Management (SRAM) so you can easily access it via your browser and log in with your institutional credentials. Accessing data can be done by downloading a single file directly from the website or you can download datasets in bulk by connecting to MDR via a programme on your computer.
Easy to share
SURF Research Access Management (SRAM) enables collaboration with academic users worldwide and gives research collaborations access to data stored at DataHub. Because of SRAM you do not need to remember any additional passwords to have access to your data. Not only it is possible to work on a dataset together with collaborators, SRAM also empowers data stewards to control the collaboration memberships and manage permissions of data stored at DataHub. When uploading data to DataHub a metadata form is presented to the user to be filled with details about the data. This information is directly stored with your data. These metadata increase the findability of your data for you and other researchers, but also serves as a good reminder for yourself when revisiting a dataset after several years.
More information
As all research and all data are different, it depends on your situation, which kind of storage suits you best. On the DataHub portal you can find more information about our storage facilities. For determining what option suits your needs best, please contact DataHub.
