Building on the strategic theme scientific information @ the core, we have developed a strategic collection plan. The goal of the strategic collection plan is to focus on our ambitions, provide direction for all collection decisions in the upcoming years (2026–2031), and to guide us via long-term actions towards concrete annual plans.

Workflow improvements

In 2025 we focused, among other issues, on workflow improvements. For example, in collaboration with faculties, we developed an automated procedure for adding (bachelor and) master theses to the UM Theses database which resulted in lowering the costs for both faculties and library.

Additionally, by changing the default search settings in LibSearch to prioritise available (open) collections at UM, we lowered interlibrary loan requests, cutting costs for students and faculties.

Data-driven collection management

We work more and more data-driven when it comes to collection evaluations, supporting faculties in making collection (renewal) decisions and updating their core lists of journals. In collaboration with faculties, we work on our retention policy, based on, among other criteria, usage statistics to prevent us from running out of storage capacity.

New resources and innovations

We have acquired (or licenced), in close cooperation with our faculties, new databases and other types of resources, such as VR apps and board games that are used in education.

As a library we support Diamond Open Access initiatives like SCOAP and OpenAlex to see how they can fit into and might replace licensed resources.
