Theme webinars on assessment and grading

29 Oct 2020

The second course period has started when you read this news item. You might have some experiences with Canvas already and wonder how to get more out of this new learning management system. Or do you want to dive into the possibilities before deciding how to use Canvas functionality for your course? Our Canvas theme webinars can be a good way to be informed.

Canvas theme webinars

In the Canvas theme webinars we address both didactics and the best workflow in Canvas. Already 7 sessions have taken place of which several focused on aspects related to assessment and grading.

Canvas Gradebook

One of the webinars zoomed in on the Canvas Gradebook for grading student activities and products. What options does Canvas offer for plagiarism detection and how to access this from gradebook? How to organise communication of grades to students and how to import and export grade data?

Questions that trigger you as well? You can watch the recording of the 15 minutes presentation on Gradebook and Urkund.

Speedgrader and Rubrics in Canvas

Another webinar focused on the use of Speedgrader and Rubrics in Canvas. What is a rubric, what are its basic components and what are the advantages and good practices? How to create a rubric in Canvas and how to tie a rubric to speedgrader for structured assessment and feedback on student assignments?

Interested in answers to these questions? Please watch the recording on the Canvas Speedgrader and Rubrics.

Looking back at other webinars

Other topics addressed in the theme webinars are collaborative group work and discussions. Or good practices and advantages of enriching (Canvas) courses with videos. We guided the participants through the workflow on making, uploading and sharing on-campus and off-campus recordings sharing through Canvas.

Missed out on a webinar you wanted to attend? Do not worry! The 15 minute explanation of each webinar is recorded and shared on a dedicated channel. And, because the Q&A sessions are not recorded, we take care that the most important questions are added to the FAQ page on the Canvas Support Portal.

Upcoming webinars

The sessions are valuable for course coordinators and tutors who would like to learn how each Canvas feature can enrich a blended or online PBL course. These sessions may count toward your Continuous Professional Development depending on your CPD objectives. More information on CPD can be found on the EDLAB CPD website.
So far 9 sessions have been scheduled, but topics can be added upon request.
