The person or legal entity (such as a publisher or employer) that owns the Exploitation Rights to a work. This is not always the original Creator.

Dutch Copyright Act (DCA)
The official legislation (Dutch: Auteurswet) governing copyright in the Netherlands.

Easy Access Agreement (EAR)
An Agreement between Dutch universities and Stichting UvO regarding the reuse of extracts in education.
Education Exception
A statutory limitation (Section 16 DCA) that allows the use of parts of works for non-commercial educational purposes. This serves as the legal foundation for the Easy Access Agreement.
Exploitation Rights
Economic rights (such as reproduction and publication) that can be transferred or sold to third parties.

Moral Rights
Personal rights of the creator (e.g. the right to be credited) that always remain with the creator.

Public Domain
Works no longer protected by copyright (due to expiration) or where the creator has waived all rights via CC0.

Right to Quote
A statutory exception (Section 15a DCA) allowing fragments to be used for functional academic purposes, such as critique or discussion.

Stichting UvO
A Collective Management Organisation (CMO) representing publishers on application of the Education Exception as specified in the Easy Access Agreement. They collect and pass on the fees in relation to the use of materials for educational use also on behalf of Pictoright, the CMO for the creators of visuals.
