Clinical Tools: A DIY catalogue for the creative

Series description

With a deliberate wink to the glossy instrument or tool catalogue selling the latest tools to hospitals and medical schools, Clinical Tools is a series of textbooks that focuses on the DIY in healthcare.

The series celebrates the abundance of existing materials and ideas in clinical settings, orienting around practices of making, repurposing, improvisation, and tinkering. The textbooks are co-created with students to offer an open-source investigation into the creativity in healthcare around the world, including interviews, articles, instructions, illustrations, and photographs. This is the work of everyday designers in medicine, playfully exploring how to work with materials that come to hand. Resonating with the DIY aesthetics and intentions of publications such as the Whole Earth ‘Catalogue’, Clinical Tools invites others to make, too.
