Digital Literacy is essential for navigating our complex digital world. Maastricht University Library’s Digital Literacy programme supports students and educators. Since the digital landscape is constantly changing, our offers are also subject to development.
AI prompt library
The AI prompt library is a collection of prompt templates designed to give you a starting point and inspiration you need to use Generative AI (GenAI) tools like an expert.
Library offers Digital Literacy
We provide workshops, materials and advice on Digital Literacy for students and teachers. Topics covered include the responsible use of AI, podcasting, and the use of VR/XR in education. An overview of our offers can be found in the Digital Literacy service catalogue.
We work in close collaboration with our library colleagues from Information Literacy and Data Literacy, as well as the Digital Labs team. Outside of the library, we also work closely with the faculties and maintain close connections with EDLAB and other UM Expertise centres.

Academic skills online modules
We have developed online modules on academic skills for Digital Literacy. These can be used by students for self-study and for teachers to integrate in their courses.
Canvas course
We have developed a Canvas course for Digital Literacy. This is for teachers and facilitates the integration of our Information Literacy materials into courses.
Digital Labs
We work closely with the Digital Labs team. In the library’s Digital Labs, students and UM staff can experience and use different technologies, such as podcast and video, 3D printers, extended reality (XR) and more.

Digital Literacy Competency frameworks
We are currently developing Digital Literacy Competency frameworks for students and educators to help embed Digital Literacy in curricula and teacher professionalisation, such as the University Teacher Qualification (UTQ) & Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
For this we base ourselves on for example the European Digital Competence Framework (Dig Comp). We include aspects that are relevant for the UM context and necessary for the UM community to become ready for the 21st century. Our frameworks include essential academic literacy aspects, such as critical thinking and scientific integrity, but also academic digital creation and collaboration, digital learning (and teaching), and development as well as aspects of safety, such as cybersecurity, privacy, but also wellbeing. AI literacy is integrated where necessary.
