Access to Turnitin
Turnitin is integrated within the UM educational tools Canvas, PebblePad and TestVision. It is also available as a stand-alone tool for UM employees.
How to use Turnitin in Canvas
You can check students’ submissions for plagiarism. However, Turnitin is not automatically activated. You must activate Turnitin manually.
Click on “Get Started” below to see a step-by-step guide. Click on the enlarge-icon for a full screen view.
How to use Turnitin in PebblePad
Turnitin is available in PebblePad, but it needs to be activated at regional level and within your workspace/assignment. You can read our Turnitin Guide below or get in touch with your PebblePad faculty support.
How to use Turnitin in TestVision
Inform your exam coordinator about your intention to use Turnitin in TestVision. The plagiarism check needs to be set up prior to the exam session!
You can find more information in the Testvision Training (opens in Canvas) or get in touch with the Digital Examination Support at your faculty.

UM employees can access Turnitin with their Maastricht University username and password.

Interpreting a Turnitin Similarity Report
Turnitin creates a Similarity Report for each student submission. This Similarity Report shows whether there is overlap between the paper and the database. It also shows the percentage of text that might have been created by AI.
The Similarity Score is not a risk score. It shows the percentage of overlap between a paper and the database. This score needs further interpretation by viewing the Similarity Report.
