Welcome to the all-new UM Library Update! We are excited to present a refreshed and informative edition that brings you the latest updates, events, and resources from our library. In the past you used to receive separate news updates for education and research. Recognising the significant overlap between these areas, we have decided to merge them into a unified UM Library Update, now arriving in your inbox every two months. This way, you are informed about all the latest happenings and updates right from the heart of the library. Happy reading!
We want to use the Open Access Week this year to learn about the benefits and inspire broader participation in community-driven Open Access as a new norm for Research and Education.
At Maastricht University, we are passionate advocates of Open Science, not just in research but also in education. Making education material (semi) openly accessible benefits both educators and students.
During the renovations, things may be different from what you are used to, which can lead to some questions. Read on to discover the answers to the frequently asked questions.

After the summer break, we are back with the series Talking about books. In the newest video, the book A Secular Age by Charles Taylor is presented by Arthur Willemse, PhD.
Working towards the academic library of the future
In 2022 the UM Open Science policy has been updated and expanded, in line with UM's strategic plan 2022-2026 in which Open Science is described as 'the norm'. Meanwhile, the faculties have started working on their Open Science action plans, and based on their content, the library has created an initial plan to further implement the Open Science themes in the Open Science Policy, taking into account differences between the faculties. We have also undertaken several overarching actions, such as appointing an Open Science figurehead (Prof. Cyrus Mody, FASoS) and, of course, organising the successful Maastricht Open Science Festival this past May.
UM's Chief Open Science Mariëlle Prevoo and UM Library's Open Science Officer Dennie Hebels discussed the updated UM Open Science policy in a podcast. Click on the image below to listen to this podcast.
