In this update, we are excited to share our achievements from the past year in our Highlights of 2023. Among the highlighted news items, you'll read more about the reopening of the renovated library in Randwyck and the Global Health database. On International Women's Day, 8 March, we released a video as part of our 'Talking about books' series, discussing the book 'Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men'. Happy reading!
A meeting place where people think together, work together, and socialise together. An open atmosphere that radiates tranquillity and stimulates thought. This is what students, researchers, teachers, and UM staff can look forward to when the Randwyck Library reopens its doors in 8 weeks.
The University Library recently started offering access to the Global Health database (EBSCO). Global Health is a database that provides a truly global perspective on public health, indexing key literature not covered by other databases.
Are you curious about the world of open-access publishing? We have two new opportunities to help you navigate this dynamic landscape: an open-access workshop and a weekly open-access publishing hour.
In the series Talking about books, enthusiastic readers and authors promote their favourite book. Every 6 to 8 weeks, a new video will be uploaded to the UM Library YouTube channel.
Professor of Digital Cultures & Associate Dean for Research at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sally Wyatt, is shining a spotlight on a book just in time for International Women's Day: "Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men" by Caroline Criado Perez.
Working towards the academic library of the future
In the Highlights 2023, we present the results of the projects we have been working on as part of our journey in working towards the academic library of the future. Scientific information is and remains the core of the University Library. In the Highlights 2023, we want to take you along our story of our work process of making scientific information available and our collaboration with our target audiences in education and research.
Did you know...
... that Veldeke Kring Maastricht, a foundation that encourages people to speak, write, and listen to the Maastricht dialect, donated 10 stools made from books to the library in 2021. The Veldeke Kring Maastricht devised a creative way to repurpose surplus books. Rather than disposing of them as old paper, they were transformed into beautiful book stools.
... that in addition to books, you can also borrow a Smartphone Kit and a Podcast Kit at the library? The Smartphone Kit and the Podcast Kit are small cases with equipment that will help you enhance the quality of the videos you record with your smartphone or record a podcast wherever you desire. Make a reservation via Ask your Librarian and pick the kits up at one of the library locations.
