Podcast facilities

• You can find our Podcast Studios under the Special Facilities tile of your preferred Library location.
• You can book the Podcast Studios up to three weeks in advance.
• At the start of your time slot, pick up the key at the Library Information Desk. Staff will explain where you need to go.

For staff/teachers: if you want to book the DIY Podcast Studio more than three weeks in advance, you can send your request, with your requested date/time, to reservations ub@maastrichtuniversity.nl. Make sure to include the date, booking time and your name.

For AVM and MUMC students & staff: you cannot access the Resource Booker, but you can book the studio by sending us a message with your requested date/time.

Note: if you want to invite guests from outside the UM community to take part in your podcast, please request permission by sending us a message. We will inform the reception desk of your guest’s arrival. A guest must always be accompanied by a member from the UM community (student or staff) with a UM card.

No. The studio is designed for both beginners and experienced podcasters. A step-by-step manual is available, and the equipment is set up to be easy to use, allowing you to start recording with minimal technical knowledge.  

The studio can accommodate up to four participants at the same time. It is equipped with four professional microphones and a RØDECaster Pro II mixing panel, making it suitable for interviews, discussions, and roundtable conversations.

Before your session, prepare your discussion topics and invite any guests who will join the recording. Bring a laptop so you can transfer your audio files to your own device after the session.  

Yes, but permission is required in advance. If you would like to invite external guests, please contact the Library beforehand so reception can be informed. External guests must be accompanied by a UM student or staff member during their visit.

Yes. In addition to recording facilities, the Multimedia Facilities also offer dedicated editing computers. Editing computers are available for video editing and audio editing and can be reserved in advance.  After your recording session, you can transfer your audio files and use the editing workstations to edit, enhance, and export your podcast. Editing software (Audacity) and support materials are available to help you get started.

• Bring a laptop so you can transfer the audio to your personal device after you are done.

Reserve a kit in advance, to ensure one is available when you need it!

It will be ready for you at the Information Desk at your booked time.You can borrow a kit for 3 days at a time using your UM card during office hours (Mon-Fri 8.30-17.00). The kit must be returned within the three days during office hours. Please cancel your booking if you will not be using the kit.

• Decide what you want to record and where, to speed up the recording process.
• When using the recorder, it is best to do so in an environment with minimal surrounding noise. Make sure to point the recorder at the source of the sound for the best results.
• Also keep in mind to check the requirements of your task.
