Inter Library Loan – ILL

Sorry, ILL services are not available for non-university library members.

You need a valid UMcard to use the Inter Library Loan service.
Apply for a UMcard.

• The requested literature should be study and/or research-related
• The ILL service is free for OU staff members, costs will be charged to the OU
• Specific information about your requests will be sent to your personal Libsearch account
• The books you request will be sent to the OU campus in Heerlen
• The requested photocopies will be sent as a PDF. You will receive an email with a link and password. The link is also available in your ILL account ( My account)
• If a publication is not available in a Dutch library, it is possible to request it through International Inter Library Loan (see International ILL).

• You need a valid UMcard  to use the Inter Library Loan (ILL) service.
• ILL requests for a photocopy will cost € 6.50 and requests for a book loan cost € 13.00. You can pay at the information desk of the library (bank card only). There will be no refund.
• The books you request will be sent to the University Library (You will receive an email when the book is available. You have to return the book to the library)
• Requested copies are delivered as a PDF. You will receive an email with a link and password

• You need a valid and activated UMcard to use the Inter Library Loan service
  • UM employees: Activate your UMcard
  • MUMC employees: Go to the Information desk of the library

• The requested literature should be study and/or research-related
• The costs will be charged to the ILL budget as determined by your faculty/MUMC
• Specific information about your requests will be sent to your personal Libsearch account
• Requested books can be collected at the University Library, you will receive an email when the book is available
• The requested photocopies will be sent as a PDF. You will receive an email with a link and password. The link is also available in your ILL account ( My account):

*This service costs €5 per year, starting each September. You can pay at the information desk of the library (bank card only). There will be no refund of this annual fee. Note: FPN students do not have to pay this annual fee of €5.

1. Go to  Libsearch, and search the library’s catalogue:

3. If the item you are looking for is not in our collection, click on the title and then on the button “Interlibrary loan request” on the right

4. Sign in with your credentials:

5. Fill in the Interlibrary loan form

6. Click on ‘submit request’. You are redirected to your personal Libsearch account (My account). Here you will find the details of the request (-s) and an overview of all your previous ILL requests

7. You can monitor your requests by signing in to “My account” in Libsearch and clicking on requests

• Use the Journal article request form or the Book request form to  submit an international ILL application
• Library staff will apply for the book or journal article at a library abroad
• The ILL costs will be charged to your faculty.
  • Please note that if a book/article cannot be supplied, these costs will not be reimbursed.

Sorry, it is not possible to make international ILL requests for UM alumni.

• The ILL costs will be charged to your faculty/MUMC
• Please note that if the book/article cannot be supplied, these costs will not be reimbursed

• At the information desk you can submit an international inter library loan request for a book loan or a journal article copy
• Please add a photocopy of the literature reference
• You must pay a personal contribution* when you submit the request ( bank card only), the library charges the costs of international ILL to your faculty.
• Please note that if the book/article cannot be supplied, the personal contribution will not be reimbursed
• Library staff will apply for the book or journal article at a library abroad.

* Personal contribution to the costs of international ILL:

• Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences
  Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience
  • Students pay a personal contribution of €1
• Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Engineering and School of business and economics
  • Students pay a personal contribution of €10
• Faculty of Law
  • Students do not pay a personal contribution.
