Ink, glue and pages: Exploring the Craftsmanship of Ancient Books in Maastricht University’s Special Collections
Students from Maastricht University embarked on a captivating project exploring the hidden secrets of ancient books stored in the Special Collections depot. While investigating the materials and techniques used in bookbinding during the 17th and 18th century the students discovered many fascinating facts. These insights will contribute to further research and preservation efforts, ensuring the longevity of these precious literary treasures.

…Henk van den Hoogen wins Lifetime Achievement Award for research support
Our colleague Henk van den Hoogen recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award for research support at the SURF Research Day in Amersfoort. The award ceremony highlighted Henk’s crucial role in, among other things, appointing a data steward at every UM faculty.
…Premium project: academic library of the future
As the summer break is about to start, we look back on a joyful academic year in which we participated in multiple fruitful collaborations. One of these collaborations was our participation in the Premium project from EDLAB. Our colleague Meike Kerkhofs-Welkenhuizen together with Eromesmarko (interior designer and furnisher for schools) gave five motivated master students the assignment to design the academic library of the future. The group of students worked autonomously on designing an interior that is adjusted to the (future) educational and study needs of students.

…Open Science Festival Maastricht / UKB/LCRDM Networking Day
On Thursday 25 May, the first Open Science Festival Maastricht took place, organised by the Open Science Community Maastricht (OSCM) in collaboration with the Maastricht University Library. Several panel discussions and parallel sessions focused on the theme of Open Science. The network day of UKB (Dutch University Libraries and The Royal Library of the Netherlands)/LCRDM (National Coordination Point Research Data Management) also took place at the same venue, allowing visitors to combine the two programmes. The theme of the UKB/LCRDM networking day was ‘Research Data Curation in daily practice’.
